Offshore pipeline and multi-strand conductor cutting shears are specifically designed to cut steel jacketed multistring conductor pipe. The hydraulic shearing tool is a three-function hydraulic shearer designed to cut multi-string well conductor pipe and subsea pipeline with the appropriate jigs, if required. The three remotely controlled shear functions are: (lock), open and close (gate), open and close, and (blade) advance and retract. This shear uses the same patented design specifications as the 48-inch shear and can cut subsea pipelines and up to four grouted stringers conductor pipes with a maximum diameter of 30 inches.
The shear has three 14-inch-ID hydraulic cylinders capable of exerting a maximum working force of 2.4 million pounds at a maximum working pressure of 5,000 PSI. The cylinders have subsea seals rated to 3000 feet. The hydraulic cylinders use biodegradable oil.
The cutting blade is designed with a center point to initially penetrate the pipe and to complete the cut at the end of the stroke. The shear can cut pipeline and conductor pipe from 18 inches to 30 inches within 120 seconds.
This hydraulic shear requires a power pack capable of producing 150 horsepower from a diesel engine driving a pressure-compensating hydraulic oil pump. Shear Power Services International, LLC offers these units as part of its turnkey pricing packages.
The GPM flow rate for the three-function hydraulic control valve assembly associated with the hydraulic power pack supplies 60 GPM for the blade and 25 GPM for both the gate and lock.
